Theeba Motorsport returned to winning ways in the International GT Open’s season resume at the Red Bull Ring by tasting victory in Race One at the Austrian venue.

The team started the race from 14th in the face of a disrupted qualifying session, in which a pair of late red flags prevented driver, Reema Juffali, from improving in the grid decider.

Reema completed the first stint of the race and with a strong start, gained two positions on the opening lap by overtaking the #72 Optimum Motorsport McLaren and #182 AF Corse Ferrari.

Continuing to make progress, she next passed the #777 Olimp Racing Audi for 11thand was on the verge of breaking into the top 10 when the pit window opened in the28th minute.

Opting to take the undercut strategy, Reema handed the car over to team-mate, Adam Christodoulou, 41 minutes from the chequered flag and mere moments before the Safety Car was deployed following a spin for Aust Motorsport’s Dino Steiner.

After rejoining in 13th, Adam ascended to 11th on the restart and quickly broke into the top 10 with an overtake on Marco Antonelli.

The Briton continued to battle through the field and moved onto the Pro-Am podium in the 40th minute after clearing the #44 Greystone GT McLaren of Andrew Gilbert.

By next passing Janine Schoffner, Adam snatched second in class and charged hard to close in on, and overtake, the #133 Kessel Racing Ferrari for the lead.

With one final overtake in the closing minutes of the race, Adam sealed Theeba Motorsport’s fourth class victory and third overall podium of the 2022 campaign to date.

In Their Words

Reema Juffali, Founder & Driver, Theeba Motorsport

“It feels great to be back on the podium and to kick-start the second half of 2022 with a win! We’ve been working extremely hard behind the scenes over the summer break, and to have our efforts rewarded in this way is very satisfying. Qualifying left us with a little bit of work to do in the race but I was able to make some good progress during my stint. Adam then did an amazing job battling to the front in the second half to bring home our fourth win of the season but now, we need to get our heads down and focus on tomorrow where we’ll be pushing hard for another great result.”

Adam Christodoulou, Driver, Theeba Motorsport

“What a race! Reema did a great job during her stint to put us in a strong position for the second half and after the Safety Car, we were able to fight forward very well. The car felt fantastic, the team is working at its best and now, we just need to do it all over again tomorrow.”
